WILF: I can understand and talk about a story. I can identify what a character is like from a story.
This is one of the stories I read from a journal.
Das Piano
This story is about a boy named Bernard Beckett at war with his teacher Miss Biggs (yep, she is the size of her last name). Bernard invented a game called "Catch The German", and he and his mates played it every recess. He was being a German and Miss Biggs caught him. She asked what he was doing and he replied, "Being a German..." Everyone playing got all-week detention. But the people who were being Army soldiers were set free. Mrs Biggs invited the mayor to come and hear the students sing. Betty Carrol (the prettiest girl in class) was about to play the piano when Mrs Biggs demanded Bernard to sing alone. He said "I can't play on a German piano...", and that's when Mrs Biggs lost it. She went to the janitors closet and grabbed an axe. She smashed the piano until the mayor said "You can't smash a piano with all those children watching!" "Only I can!" So they each took turns smashing until it was an open camp fire.
