Autumn Poetry

WALT: When write I will notice and identify the tense in a sentence.  I will replace the words to change the tense of the sentence or poem.

All the year 5 & 6 students including the teachers, went outside to the back of the field where all the leaves and naked trees were. I loved listening to the sound of crunching leaves and smelling the fresh pine aroma. The leaves were very subtle, yet also very strong.

When we got back, we opted into our workshops. I chose poetry out of narrative, and recounts because I find it quite difficult to create my own stories, and when I'm writing a recount, I usually will miss out most of the things I actually did. Since there were so many students in one poetry workshop, the teachers decided to split the load. Mr Wallace and Mr Basset had red and green counters in their hands, and they would give us each one a random one. If you had a green counter you were in Mr Basset's workshop, and a red one, Mr Wallace's.

When we got to our workshops we had to plan our poems. We brainstormed Autumn words and looked at a few examples of Autumn poems. Next, we had to write. Now this was the fun bit because we get to choose our own words and rhyme them with others. Once we were done, we edited, and edited.

Then Mr Wallace's workshop went outside and took a photo of something related to Autumn, like a leaf, or a naked tree like I decided to do. We got back inside and Mr Wallace taught us about sketching. The main bits we needed to learn were:
1. To keep looking at your image.
2. Use a sharp pencil.
3. Use swift strokes.
4. Press lightly on your paper.

We then sketched our photo. Mr Wallace had a handy tip to help which was to turn the photo upside down and draw it upside down, because your brain doesn't really know what it is drawing, and you can really get a  better sketch. We coloured it in and finally, added our poem.

Here is my art.
This is my poem.

Warm sweaters, chilly nights.
Brisk mornings, vivid skies.
Vibrant colours windy days,
The leaves fall down in different ways.
Dank forests, naked trees,
Summer is beginning to cease.
Autumn leaves are receiving death,
As Summer has drawn its final breath.
